ESEA Hate Crime Report by HCCS

Hackney Chinese Community Services have produced a report about the number, trends and changes in East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) hate we have witnessed before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have made comparisons and analysed data from the London Metropolitan Police and other UK police forces. It is the first report of its kind and shines light on the discrimination ESEA people have faced.

Some recommendations from the report include:

  • Adoption of East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) as an ethnic category across police data collection

  • Other UK police forces to record the outcome of investigations as seen in the London Metropolitan Police for in-depth analysis of police response to ESEA hate crime

  • This report to be repeated every 6 months to track ESEA hate in the UK and police performance in this area.
