Londoners welcome Hongkongers

Date: 31st January 2021

The new British National Overseas (BNO) Visa takes effect today.

Some Hongkongers will exercise their rights conferred by the BNO Visa to come to the UK, and some will come by other means to seek a safe haven.

We warmly welcome Hongkongers’ arrivals into London. London is a great world class city renowned for its cultural richness, diversity, inclusivity and community cohesiveness.

London has received many waves of ethnic Chinese migrants from different parts of the world in the last 70 years, including from Hong Kong, the New Territories (Hong Kong), Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and China following the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, as well as Falun Gong Practitioners and Fujian asylum seekers etc. Hongkongers will be a welcomed new addition to this diverse East and Southeast Asian community.

We look forward to serving and supporting you and your families in making a new home in London, and warmly invite you to join the East and Southeast Asian community to contribute towards another London success story.
