Help Hackney Chinese Community Services with our new name!
Hackney Chinese Community Services (HCCS) was founded in 1985 and we continue to serve the East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) community to this day. Thirty-six years on, we are making some changes, and to celebrate this, we are renaming HCCS. We are looking for word submissions from the ESEA community in the UK to help build a name that better reflects the community we serve.
Submit 3 words in English or an ESEA language/dialect that mean ‘community’ or ‘home’ to you. Include what these words are, why you have chosen them and the stories behind them. The categories are PLACE, FEELING, and OBJECT. We encourage you to ask family and friends, not from your generation, and make submissions on their behalf to get as many voices included as possible.
6 words and their accompanying descriptions will be chosen by our judging panel of creatives and HCCS trustees. These 6 words and descriptions will be used as a starting point for community workshops held later this year, which will help shape the future of HCCS. 3 winners will be selected and given seats at a lip-smacking ESEA supper club held at the centre in October! Winners will be announced on Thursday 14 October 2021.
Submit your words by completing the form here: shorturl.at/qBFV1
The competition is open from 1 September 2021 to 6 pm on 30 September 2021 as part of besea.n’s ESEA heritage month.
We look forward to receiving your submissions!
