The wonderful Jenny Lau aka @celestialpeach_uk recently interviewed our trustee Cường Phạm @phambinho, a British Vietnamese community activist.
They discussed the history of the settlement of Vietnamese refugees in the UK from 1975 onwards, including how clusters of Vietnamese people evolved in certain London boroughs and the path to integration, through training for the catering and nail bar industry. They discussed the importance of community centres, and how the second generation are documenting their parents’ stories.
They also discuss the continuing prevalence of mental health problems which remain so persistent and pervasive; how the migrant “dream” of coming to the UK which has led to tragedies such as the #essex39. Issues include heroin addiction, isolation and social issues for single Vietnamese men... and much more!
