Community

At HCCS we hold several groups and services for our local community that connect to our Chinese heritage.

Luncheon Club

The luncheon club is an extremely popular club held the three times a week. It provides an enjoyable and safe environment for all generations to meet. A varied lunch menu with Chinese home cooked hot food served at a nominal price. We organise our lunch menu taking individual dietary requirements into account and provide a healthy, nourishing and varied lunch for everyone who attends.

After lunch we provide a number of facilities such as Chinese satellite channels, Chinese newspapers magazines and a library of Chinese books. We also celebrate birthday parties and festivals events throughout the year. There is further opportunity to socialise with other members through mahjong, karaoke and other activities.

Daily Activities

Health Advocacy

HCCS provides the community with good support for their health needs. We provide a Chinese and Vietnamese interpretation service for people needing it. A referral is made by GP's and the Home interpretation Service and is outreach throughout the borough. We are on call, so emergencies can also be catered for.

In addition, we also provide information and advice abut health. We are currently working with the National Health Resource Centre to provide our members with advice regarding dementia.

Welfare Advice

HCCS also provide our members with advice and recommendation about benefits and housing. Many people find it difficult to understand what their entitlements are, so we help them apply and fill in the application forms for the right benefits to suit their needs.

We also provide our members wiht further advice about living in the UK.  The photo above shows parents at the Hackney Chinese school attending a talk on pensions.
